Valerie Elizabeth (Dixon) Council

Valerie Elizabeth Dixon Council was born on August 10, 1958 to James Robert and Marie Yvonne Dixon in Ocala, Florida. 

Valerie received her formal education at Vanguard High School in Ocala, FL and was a proud member of the graduating class of 1976. She furthered her education at Bethune-Cookman College in Daytona Beach, Florida where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Education. 

Valerie accepted Christ as her savior at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church at an early age and continued her relationship with Christ until her death. She served in numerous capacities including Trustee, Financial Secretary, Lay Organization, YPD Director and choir member.

Valerie was an active member of the community and served as Treasurer for the Sickle Cell Disease Association of Marion/Levy County, Basileus for Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, and the Florida Education Association. She was very involved with the National Pan Hellenic Council (Divine Nine), a member of the Bethune Cookman University National Alumni Association and the current secretary for the Marion County Chapter of the Alumni Association.

She spent 35 years as a Business Education Teacher for Marion County Public Schools, pridefully serving as an advisor for the Future Business Leaders of America. Valerie retired in 2015, having served a 32-year tenure at Lake Weir High School.Valerie loved teaching and touched many, many young lives. In her free time, Valerie enjoyed traveling, sewing, bargain shopping and most of all spending time with her family. 

She leaves to cherish her precious memory, her mother: Marie Dixon-Jones, Ocala, FL. 3 children: Donald Council Jr. (Lauren), Ocala, FL, Dorian Council, Cartersville, GA and Deann Randall, Jacksonville, FL. One bonus child: Monica Emmanuel, Kissimmee, FL. One brother: Dealmus Dixon (Debra), Daytona Beach, FL. One sister: Dr. Dolores Gordon (Ernest), Macon, GA. One godbrother, Cedric Williams, Austin, TX. 12 Grandchildren: Kaleel, Jaleen, Aiden, Daniel, Kyla, Gabriella, Jazlynn, Willie, Jonah, Bella, Amaria & A’dori(arriving soon). 4 godchildren: Tamara Drayton (Jason), Apopka, FL, Kimberly Montgomery, Ocala, FL, O’Mariyah Tucker, Atlanta, GA, Tyrone Walker Jr., Ocala, FL. Many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, church family, sorrowing friends and Sorors. She showed a mother’s love with dedication to fill the needs of countless children. 

Valerie Elizabeth Dixon Council departed this life on March 21, 2021. She was preceded in death by her father, James Robert Dixon, grandparents, Godmother, Sarah Blye, and her best friend, Ora Lee Jackson.
