Tanjua was born on November 25, 1964 to the late Lillian Jones and the late Elder Mays in Ocala, FL.
A Time to Learn
Tanjua received her formal education from the Marion County Public School System where she was a graduate of Vanguard High School, Class of 1982. Tanjua was a dedicated member of her class and was responsible for organizing many events and gatherings.
A Time to Live
Tanjua was an advocate for everything and everyone! Her community affiliations included being a dedicated advocate for Domestic Violence, an Ambassador for Multiple Myeloma in which she held monthly meetings sharing her testimony and recovery from the disease, she organized and ran a successful women’s softball league and numerous boards and community organizations that she volunteered countless hours for. In her leisure she enjoyed gardening, traveling, having a good time with family and friends but most of all her precious grandchildren whom she loved dearly!
A Time to Fly Away
Tanjua was called home to eternal rest on September 3, 2025 in Ocala, FL. She was preceded in death by her Mother: Lillian Jones, Father: Elder Mays and Brother: Anthony Jones.

She leaves to cherish precious memories: Son: Quinton Mays (Lentavius Thomas); Daughter: Ciera Harmon (Darren Harmon, Jr.); Grandchildren: Kalyce Franklin, Angel Mays, Brooklyn Mays, Quinton Mays, Jr., Brycen Mays, Jace Mays, Darren Harmon, III, Lauren Harmon and Bella Mays; Siblings: Jeffrey Jones, Travis Mays (Mirella Mays), Lecedric Jackson, Richard Mays (Shawntae Brown), Latondra Mays and Sherry McClain; Nieces: Treva Jones, Tiffany Florence (Drayton Florence), Cherrell Mays, Tanisha Hudson, Amani Mays, and Amelia Jackson; Nephews: Jeffery Jones (Jameka Jones), Trevor Mays, Tevin Jones, Henry Jackson, Tyrese Whitted, Resean Mays, Amani Mays, Lecedric Jackson, Jr., Elder Mays-Hutchinson, Elias Mays-Curry and a host of other relatives and numerous friends.
