STARKE, FL -  Rev.  A. J. (Albert James) Simmons, Sr., age, 82, transition to be with his heavenly father on September 16, 2019 at Shands @ UF, Starke, Fl. Rev. Simmons served the community as a pastor to the following Church’s: New Bethel Baptist Church, Starke, Fl., Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Ollistee, Fl, St. Matthews Baptist Church, Alachua, Fl, New Life Baptist Outreach Ministries, Gainesville, Fl, Prison Ministries. He served as Moderator of the Mt. Sinai Association and Florida General Baptist Convention.

He is survived by: (Sons) Albert James Simmons, Jr., (Tamala), Reginald Leverson(Dray), Christopher Cummings(Robyn),Alexander Cummings (Rashaunda). (8) Grandchildren, (2) God-Children, Sisters: Oletha Kemp, Marsha Kemp, Pamela Kemp, Brothers: Felton Simmons (Shirley), Genoa Kemp(Patricia),Carlton Kemp(Susan), Kelvin Kemp. Preceded him in death (wife) Carolyn Simmons, (daughter)) Deborah Hoggard.

Life celebration for Rev. A.J. Simmons, Sr. will be held 11:00AM on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at New Bethel Baptist Church, 901 Keller Street, Starke, Fl.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 4:00PM until 7:00PM at J. Hadley Funeral Home, 2030 North Temple Avenue, Starke, Florida 32091 in the (Kenyatta “Bear” Jones Memorial Chapel)
