Mary Reis was born on May 12, 1925, in Providence, Rhode Island, to the late Adeline Mendes and Leon Gomes. She was raised in East Providence, where she received her education and later attended secretarial school.
Mary accepted Christ at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, where she was baptized in November 1926 and remained a faithful member throughout her life, serving as a choir member. Her faith was central to her life and guided her commitment to serving others.
On November 29, 1952, Mary Gomes was united in holy matrimony with Peter N. Reis in East Providence. Their union was blessed with one child. Mary devoted 32 years of service as a secretary with the City of East Providence and retired on October 26, 1990. Mary also volunteered through the soup kitchen and Rhode Island Butler's Children's Hospital. She enjoyed the theater and shopping in her leisure time.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Peter N. Reis; her parents; one sister; two brothers; and two godsons.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter Patricia A. Poole ( Alden Sr.); her grandchildren, Carole E. Poole, Aldenise Poole-Baker, Monique M. Graham, Alden E. Poole ll, Alex Poole, Shane D.
