Lelia Mae Bowers, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and faithful servant of her community, was born on December 18, 1937, in Reddick, Florida, to the late Leroy and Susie Mae Griffin. She peacefully passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2025.
Lelia was a lifelong resident of Reddick, Florida, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, and hard work. She received her education through the Marion County School System and was a proud graduate of Fessenden High School, Class of 1956.
For 42 years, Lelia dedicated herself to her profession as a baker at Morrison Cafeteria, where her commitment and work ethic were well known and admired. She retired after more than four decades of faithful service.
A devoted and faithful member of United Missionary Church Baptist Church, Lelia served her church with joy and dedication. She made a joyful noise as a member of the choir, worked tirelessly in the kitchen, served on the Missionary Board, and faithfully taught Sunday School. Her love for God and her church family was evident in all she did.
Lelia was also an active and respected member of Progressive Pallbearers Lodge #158 of Reddick, Florida, where she proudly held the position of President.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Susie Mae Griffin; her siblings, Tommy (Ted) Griffin, Sammy (Dut) Griffin, Alphonso (Ronnie) Coney, Veronica (Tiny) Coney, and Lorenzo (Bugg) Griffin.
Lelia leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving sons: Frankie (Pamela) Griffin, Ricky (Brenda) Griffin, and Tremaine Griffin; siblings: Pearlie Williams, Diane Williams, Poincianas Patterson, Mercie Patterson, Ronald (Donna) Baron, Marvin Coney, Angelia (Tim) Johnson, Leroy (Allison) Griffin Jr., Sheryl (Leodis) Nevels, Lonnie Griffin, and David (Tangelia) Griffin; grandchildren: Frankie Griffin, Sable McGee, Kyeshia Wilkerson, Joaquin Patterson, Jarod Palmer, Jarvis Manns, Trenell Griffin, and Kaylyn Griffin; along with a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
Lelia Mae Bowers will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous heart, and the love she shared with everyone she encountered. Her legacy of service, strength, and devotion will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
