LOTTIE MAE (LANE) HADLEY

Lottie Mae Hadley, age 85, peacefully went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was born on December 8, 1940, in Princeton, Florida, to the late Theodore Lane Sr. and Artis Lane.

Lottie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jessie Hadley; her daughter, Bridgette Hallman; her sisters, Mildred Rolle, Helen Riddle, Marion Byrd, and Frances Juanita Major; and her brothers, Floyd Daniels, Theodore Lane Jr. (Bunk), and Clarence Lane (Musahlot).

Lottie’s early years were filled with love, learning, and faith. She attended Mays Senior High School (Arthur Polly Mays) in Goulds, Florida, graduating with the Class of 1958. A dedicated student, she excelled academically and was known for her determination and strong work ethic. In 1951, her family moved to Richmond Heights, Florida, seeking greater opportunities, and she continued her education there until graduation.

It was during her high school years that Lottie met the love of her life, Jessie Hadley. The two married soon after graduation and began their life together. Following the passing of her mother in 1967, Lottie returned to Richmond Heights, where she lovingly raised her daughters and cared for her father until his passing.

In her early years, Lottie worked with her siblings at the canning factory; affectionately known as the “Packing House.” Wanting more for her family, she pursued higher education at Miami Dade College, where she became a licensed Lab Technician. She went on to work at Jackson Memorial Hospital for twenty-five years, ultimately rising to the position of Supervisor in the Microbiology Lab. Her leadership and dedication paved the way for many others who followed in her footsteps.

In 2006, Lottie was diagnosed with breast cancer, which she bravely battled and overcame. Her faith and perseverance inspired her loved ones and those around her. She prayed daily for her family and found joy in their presence; her home was always filled with love, laughter, and the aroma of her famous homemade cakes and biscuits.

Family was the heart of Lottie’s life. She cherished gatherings, reunions, and family trips, finding happiness in every shared moment. She never hesitated to lend a helping hand, often giving without being asked. Beyond her family, she enjoyed crossword puzzles, cooking, and her favorite pastime; B.I.N.G.O.!

In 1968, Lottie and her sisters accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior under the leadership of Reverend L.S. Phillip. Together they formed the gospel group The Phillip Soul Stirrers, traveling from city to city spreading God’s word. She later became a devoted member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church under Dr. Walter T. Richardson, where she proudly belonged to the Simeon Tribe. Upon moving to Daytona Beach, Florida in 2012, she joined Calvary Christian Center in Ormond Beach, Florida under Pastor Jim Raley, where she remained faithful until her passing.

Lottie loved to sing praises to the Lord and found comfort and joy in gospel music, especially songs by Shirley Caesar. Her radiant smile and spontaneous songs could brighten any room and lift every heart.

Though Lottie was diagnosed with dementia in 2018, her strength, humor, and sweet spirit never wavered. Even in her final years, she continued to bring joy to those around her, sharing laughter and expressing her love for her family and her Savior.

Lottie leaves behind a legacy of faith, strength, and unconditional love. Cherishing her memory are her daughters: Audrey Martinez (Henry), Charlotte Jackson (Gene), Sonji Hadley, Stephanie Hadley (Dauvin), Aaliyah Hadley; and her bonus daughters, Phyllis Johnson and Jessica Hadley (Wayne). She is also survived by eleven grandchildren: Mark Hadley (Shernette), Angela Cole, Jovon Nixon, Nakesha Jackson, Regina Hunter (Anthony), Natassia Hallman, Bertram White, Thomasina Newberry, Roman Thomas Jr., Neil Hanson, and Naylette Hicks; nineteen great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Minnie Hart; her bonus sister, Mable Washington; sister-in-law, Ernestine Lane; special nieces, Lenora Brown, Darlene Robbins, LaToya Shannon, Crystal Shannon, and Tuwana Riley; a close friend, Irene Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Her life was a song of love, devotion, and faith. She will be forever remembered for her kindness, her laughter, and her unwavering trust in the Lord. “And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.”- I Corinthians 13:13
