Jeannette White, a cherished member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church community, who departed this life on April 8, 2024, at the age of 83.
Born Jeannette Samuels on December 27, 1940, in Athens, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Inez (Thomas) and Robert Griffin. The family later moved to New York, where Jeannette attended Commerce High School in New York City.
On May 1, 1972, Jeannette united in holy matrimony with Lenon B. White in New York, NY. Their loving union was blessed with six children, creating a family legacy filled with love and devotion.
Embracing her faith from an early age, Jeannette became an active and devoted member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, serving as a Missionary Representative for World Day of Prayer and as a valued choir member.
Jeannette dedicated many years of service to the New York City Transit Authority, where she worked as a Token Clerk, always with a smile for every commuter. Upon retirement, she found great joy in serving as the mother of The Antioch Missionary Baptist Church and cherished every moment spent with her family.
Her life was a testament to faith, love, and service, and she leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by those who knew her. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Lenon White, parents, and siblings, Malvonia Smith and Linda Davis, Jeannette's memory will be held in the hearts of many.
She is survived by her children, Vernon E. Thompson, Michael K. Thompson, Charise N. Watson, Lenon B. White Jr., Tedra T. Battle, and Laretta Shorts; her grandchildren, Tishana J. Trainor, Christopher J. Thompson, DeVon J. Thompson, Jayontra J. Thompson, Isaiah J. Thompson, Lauren E. Thompson, Victoria G. Thompson, Jessica A. Thompson, James M. Thompson, Brandon J. Kennon, Michelle N. Watson, Michael D. Watson, Lenon D. White, Trinity Francis, Amid Francis, Nyobi Battle, Jonathan Lopez, Bryana M. White, Akil E. White, Toni A. White, and Amari J. Wolfe; her great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
