Cornell Brewton was born on March 30, 1945, to Deacon Dewie Brewton Sr. and Mrs. Inez Graham Brewton in Blitchton, Florida. Soft spoken and gentle, he had a huge heart for family. Cornell graduated from Fessenden High School in Martin, Florida, in the Class of 1962. He
accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at New Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where he was baptized at an early age.
On September 22, 1965, Cornell Brewton enlisted in the United States Army, faithfully serving for six years until his honorable discharge on June 22, 1971. Following his military service, he worked as a construction foreman, leading a crew on both commercial and residential projects until his retirement. He enjoyed playing solitaire, checkers, and had a great love for watching old western movies.
He was preceded in death by his father, Deacon Dewie Brewton Sr.; mother, Mrs. Inez Graham Brewton; brothers, Mr. Willie Williams and Mr. Dewey (DW) Brewton Jr.;
brother-in-laws, Mr. David Brooks Sr. and Mr. Henry Godwin Sr.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Jacquelyn Brewton.
He leaves to cherish his memory: four sisters, Mae Lois Brooks of Miami, Florida, Pinellas Godwin of Blitchton,
Florida, Vivian (Harry) Robinson of Deland, Florida, and
Joretta Akpo-Sanni of Augusta, Georgia; one brother, Amin (Vera) Shaheed of Blitchton, Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
